A Knowledge-Level Model of Co-ordination

چکیده
Co-ordination is one of the central research issues in Distributed Artificial Intelligence. Most of the efforts in designing co-ordination mechanisms set out from an agent-centred point of view: they see the individual actor with its local beliefs and reasoning capabilities as the foundation of all system properties. Our thesis is that co-ordination is best modelled from an environment-centred, social perspective, that considers the whole, situated system as the starting point of any analysis. We argue that this stance is reflected in Clancey’s modification of the Knowledgelevel hypothesis. On the basis of this modified hypothesis we introduce a distinction between co-ordination at the Knowledgeand at the Symbollevel. Finally, we present a Knowledge-level model of co-ordination and illustrate it by specifying the co-ordination processes of an intelligent traffic management system.

Knowledge, managed or co-ordinated as a strategic resource, can help to internalise uncertainty or volatility and play an important role in generating and sustaining competitive advantage. One potentially important determinant of knowledge coordination between firms is the relative strength of the knowledge bases of the two partner companies. In the context of the local supply chain this paper ...
متن کاملA New Approach for Determination of Break Points for Protection Co-Ordination
Interconnected power system networks are multi loop structured. Settings determination of all over current and distance relays in such networks can be in different forms and complicated. The main problem is the determination of starting points i.e. the location of starting relays in the procedure for settings, which is referred to as break points. In this paper, a new approach based on graph th...
متن کاملBoundary effects on UK and German manufacturing innovation
We investigate how boundaries in knowledge control, sharing and co-ordination influence UK and German manufacturing firms’ innovation activity. Issues of knowledge control related to plant ownership are generally found to be unimportant for innovation, but knowledge sharing between plants affects innovation in UK plants with no in-house R&D capability. More important is that knowledge co-ordina...
